Dear friends.
The end of July is already nearing, which means that for almost three months I didn’t post anything. The only excuse I have is no excuse: I’ve worked rather hard. Completed a little concerto for marimba and orchestra (‘Trip the light fantastic’) for Acorde Deinze, a rather piece for marimba and piano (‘A walk with a friend’) and co-produced a electronic piece based on the 22nd sonata together with Frederik Segers (‘Cool eclectic’)…
And I rehearsed. A lot even. With Beat Love Oracle which played this week 4 concerts during the ‘Gentse Feesten’. I think we now have a very presentable program. Let’s hope we’ll be picked up one day.
Two weeks ago we recorded in the Miry Hall of the Conservatory of Ghent sonata 19 & 21
Liang-yu Wang crossed the Atlantic Ocean to recorded nothing less than a transcending version of the luminous 19th sonata, while Gabi Sultana poured her Maltese soul into the rather tragic 21. I felt very humble when I was confronted with their artistry…
Other important news is that from now on, ‘Hardscore’, our little production house is part of ‘Cluster’, founded by Joris Van Vinckenroye. The main goal of this composer oriented organization is to bring together musical acts defined by ‘cross-over’.‘The New Flairk’ is folk-classical, BLO is jazz-rock-classical: each of the Compoers/bands presents him- or her or itself with a product which needs a ‘dash’ to describe the stylistic choices :-). Iris and I wish Joris, Liselotte and Jana well.
Concerning my own creative future, I’ve been asked to write a longish piece for recorder and harpsichord for two great musicians (Tomma Wessel and Guy Penson), and Piet Van Boxstael (of Ictus fame) kindly asked me to conceive something for oboe solo, (he’s a planning a cd release with new pieces). Then I think I’ll go back to BLO: this group apparently pushes me to go on a never-ending quest for a kind of music that marries serious fun and funny seriousness in a way that can presented to a wider public.
Wish you all fine holidays now. I think we all deserve them now 🙂
