Slowly, very very slowly it seems to me that the cogs in my brain are engaging again.
‘Geared devices can change the speed, torque, and direction of a power source’ I read in wikipedia.
I truly won’t compare myself with a ‘power source’, though a change in speed, torque and most of all direction, these I would welcome very much. I already know that failures, big and small, will inevitably be part of the process. Still, I’m gearing up to climb the hills, bluffs, ridges and promontories which will block my way to ‘destinations unknown’, as well as I’m preparing myself to descend all the crannies, crevices, troughs and precipices which form part of all creative endeavors. At least, I hope life will allow me to bravely explore these zones of the unknown.
Soon enough the band Hardscore will start rehearsing again, preparing itself to press to its heaving bosom the new singer. On 8 September the band will select one of the three excellent singers who reached the second round. All three are very different. All are very willing to jump in the DubVee of the upcoming ‘Carbon Fixation’ project. It will be very hard to chose, for all three might bring to live the songs very distinctively.’ L’embarras du choix’ they say in French, which doesn’t exactly makes it easier 🙂
Meanwhile I made up my mind to write a piece for marimba and piano. Again. For I already did this in 1996. The piece then was called ‘Updated memories’. Now I vowed myself to stop writing ‘commemorative’ music. Which doesn’t mean that I only will look forward. For cogwheels are turing around, remember? 🙂 With this piece which Iris and I will try to play,
I hope that I’ll keep my playing skills sufficient in order not to be booed by the other hardscore members:-)
Liang-yu the pianist who dazzlingly gave the first performance of the 19th Sonata in Paris last month, sent me this exiting message today:
‘Now it’s official: I’ll perform the19th sonata in collaboration with a visual installation in Helsinki on Aug 24! The performance will be part of Sibelius Academy DocMus summer workshop/concerts. The concert venue will be out in the nature and right by the lake. The audience won’t be too big, but all are musically well educated. According to my Finnish friend, it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet Finnish musicians. 🙂 🙂
I’ll travel to Helsinki on Aug 22, and work day & night with Salla, my collaborator, to match the 2 art forms the best we can. Can’t wait to proudly introduce your music to those Scandinavian soon! ‘
Helsinki is not around the corner. But maybe dear reader, you ARE there by chance. Say hello to Liang-yu and I can’t wait to hear your impressions! 🙂
